Andy Snyder is currently CEO of Cambridge Information Group, a family-owned investment and management firm, and Chairman of CIG's ProQuest subsidiary, a leading provider of information and software solutions to the global academic and research community. Andy also serves on the Board of Blucora, Inc. (BCOR), in which CIG is a significant shareholder.
Andy began his work with CIG in 2003 and is responsible for the management of all CIG operating companies as well as the investment and acquisition process for CIG and its companies. Under Andy's leadership, CIG has grown from 190 employees to 2600 in just over ten years. Prior to joining CIG, Andy spent seven years at the Goldman Sachs Group where he focused on traditional media, technology and services investing for the firm's private equity fund. Andy also spent one year as the Assistant to the Chairman and CEO of Goldman Sachs.
Andy graduated cum laude from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania, and earned a J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center, where he graduated magna cum laude. Andy currently serves on the Board of Overseers of Penn Libraries, Board of The Browning School, and the Board of Shining Hope for Communities (SHOFCO). He and his wife Molly live in New York City with their children Sara and Sam
Bob Snyder co-founded CIG in 1971. Bob serves as CIG's Chairman of the Board and is responsible for the strategic direction and overall management of its operating companies and joint ventures.
Bob served as owner and chairman of National Standards Association from 1976-1993. National Standards is now part of Information Handling Services, Inc. From 1977-1987 he was owner and chairman of Disclosure Incorporated, which is now part of Thomson Financial Corporation.
A civic leader, Bob currently serves as a member of the Smithsonian Institution Libraries Advisory Board. He also serves on the board of the Washington Hospital Center Foundation, the National Theater in Washington, DC and the Board of Ambassadors for Johns Hopkins Project Restore. He formerly served as Co-Chairman of the National Council for the Smithsonian National Museum of the American Indian. Bob is also a former Member of the Board of Governors of The National Aquarium in Baltimore and a former Associate Trustee of the Library Board of Overseers of the University of Pennsylvania.
Bob Snyder holds a B.S. in Accounting from Babson College, Babson Park, MA and a J.D. from Brooklyn Law School, Brooklyn, NY. He is a member of the Bars of the State of New York and the District of Columbia. He and his wife Judy live in Chevy Chase, Maryland. They have two children and five grandchildren, Joshua, Jessie, Natalie, Sara & Sam.
Michael Chung is the CEO of CIG Education Group and an Operating Partner with its parent company, Cambridge Information Group. Michael's responsibilities include oversight of all of CIG's education businesses and the execution of strategic and operating initiatives for CIG companies. He serves on the Board of Directors of CIG Education Group subsidiaries, The School of the New York Times (where he is also the CEO), Sotheby's Institute of Art and Bach to Rock. During his tenure at CIG, he served as the interim CEO and Board member at Navtech, Inc. and led the turnaround of the company, which was acquired in 2016 by Airbus. He also served on the Board of Directors at ProQuest from 2008 to 2013
Michael came to CIG from Barr Associates, Inc., the largest independent manufacturer of optical filters where he served as Chief Operating Officer. Michael implemented company-wide systems and initiatives at Barr to improve operations and accelerate growth. Michael successfully led the execution of the turnaround of Barr from near bankruptcy to a profitable company and subsequently helped execute the sale of Barr in the fall of 2009.
Prior to joining Barr Associates, Michael spent seven years at the Goldman Sachs Group, most recently as Vice President in the Mergers and Acquisitions Department focusing on the communications technology sector. Over his tenure, Michael worked on numerous M&A and private equity investment transactions across a wide range of industries including information services, telecommunications, high technology, biotech and energy.
Michael enrolled in the Management and Technology Dual Bachelor's Degree Program at the University of Pennsylvania where he earned a B.S. in Economics with concentrations in Finance and Accounting from The Wharton School and a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering. Michael holds an MBA from Harvard Business School. Michael and his wife Hannah live in New York City with their sons Michael Jr. and Lucas.
George Allen was appointed as CIG's Chief Investment Officer in July 2015. George’s responsibilities include oversight of CIG's Investment process and the sourcing of new equity transactions for CIG. George came to CIG from Blucora, Inc., an investment of CIG’s where George served as the head of M&A. During his 3 years with Blucora George completed four transactions with aggregate consideration exceeding $500m.
Prior to joining Blucora, George spent 9 years at Warburg Pincus, most recently as Vice President in the Technology, Media and Telecommunications Division where he primarily focused on the firm’s investments in telecom related businesses. Over his tenure, George worked on numerous investment transactions including early and seed stage investments as well as later stage buyout deals. Prior to Warburg Pincus, George worked at Goldman Sachs in both New York and Hong Kong where he worked in both as both a principal and an agent.
George is a graduate from Yale University where he earned a BS in Mechanical Engineering. George has three children and resides in Rhinebeck NY.
Larisa Avner Trainor joined CIG in April 2005 and has served as its General Counsel since 2010. Larisa is responsible for all legal aspects of mergers and acquisitions, all financing and investor relationships, tax planning and corporate compliance. She also works on a variety corporate matters, including executive compensation issues and serves at the Secretary of ProQuest and all the other CIG portfolio companies, as well as managing the corporate property and casualty insurance for all of the CIG companies.
Larisa previously worked at E*TRADE Financial Corporation in their in-house legal group and was a member of the corporate group at Fried, Frank, Harris, Shriver & Jacobson LLP, where she specialized in transactional and securities law matters, including mergers and acquisitions, private investment funds, investment management, and corporate governance.
Larisa received her J.D., with honors, from The George Washington University Law School and her BS in Accounting from the State University of New York at Albany. She was a Certified Public Accountant (inactive) in New York State and worked for three years as an auditor with a bank holding company prior to attending law school. Larisa is a member of the bars of the District of Columbia and the Commonwealth of Virginia.
Larisa and her husband, Sean, live in Bethesda with their three daughters.
Pankaj Sharma joined CIG in June 2009 and is responsible for CIG's business development with principal focus on potential acquisitions and partnerships for strategic growth. In addition, he is responsible for financial analysis and development of strategic plans for ProQuest and other CIG operating companies. He serves on the Board of Directors of Hammond's Candies, a CIG portfolio company.
Pankaj came to CIG from Bear, Stearns & Co. where he was responsible for performing capital structure and valuation analyses, operational and financial due diligence as well as providing strategic advice. Prior to joining Bear Stearns, Pankaj was with Bank of New York Mellon as Vice President, Business Management Group where he led teams responsible for business management and strategy development. He has over a decade of leadership experience in investment banking, strategic planning and business development in the financial services sector.
Pankaj holds two MBA's: one from Columbia Business School with a concentration in Finance and Economics and one from the Indian Institute of Management in Calcutta, India with a major in Finance and Statistics. Pankaj also earned a Chemical Engineering degree from the Indian Institute of Technology in New Delhi, India.
Pankaj and his wife Ruchika live in Jersey City, New Jersey with their two children, Siya and Rohan.
David C. Levy has been CIG's principal advisor since the acquisition of Sotheby's Institute of Art in London in 2003. He formally joined the CIG team as President of the CIG Education Group in December 2006.
David left his home town of New York in 1991 to lead Washington's largest private cultural institution, the Corcoran Gallery of Art and its College of Art and Design, where he served as its President and Director until 2005. Prior to leaving New York he was Chancellor of NewSchool University, a post he accepted after completing 20 years at the helm of Parsons School of Design. During his tenure at Parsons, David built it from a small school with fewer than 500 students into an international institution with an enrollment of 12,000 and a world-wide network of campuses including Los Angeles, Paris, The Dominican Republic and Japan. He also developed innovative scholarly programs in England, Italy, France, Israel, Greece and West Africa.
A life-long professional jazz musician as well as an art historian, photographer and designer, David founded New York's first degree granting school of jazz, which thrives today as one of the world's leading jazz conservatories, The New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music. During his tenure at Parsons and The New School he initiated and oversaw the mergers of the Otis Art Institute of Los Angeles County into Parsons and the Mannes College of Music into the New School.
In the mid-1990s, while at the Corcoran, David founded and developed the Delaware College of Art and Design in Wilmington, Delaware. David earned a BA degree from Columbia and a PhD from New York University. He is a Trustee of the Alliance for Young Artists and Writers (Scholastic Art & Writing Awards), the National Foundation for Advancement in the Arts and the American Federation of Arts, a founding trustee of The Jazz Museum in Harlem and a former Commissioner of the DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities.
Levy was decorated as Chevalier des arts et des Lettres by the Republic of France, was named Washingtonian of the Year by Washingtonian Magazine and received the New York State Regents’ Award for distinguished service to Higher Education. He was awarded the degrees of Doctor of Fine Arts, Honorus Causa by Cedar Crest College and by The New School University. David resides in Washington, DC with his wife Carole and their son Alexander.
Barbara Inkellis serves as Senior Vice President, Secretary & General Counsel for CIG Education Group. During her tenure at CIG, she has been directly responsible for overseeing and managing dozens of mergers and acquisitions as well as commercial contracts, intellectual property and human resource legal issues.
Barbara came to CIG from the law firm of Fried Frank Harris Shriver & Jacobson, where she specialized in corporate law. She previously was an associate at Bracewell & Patterson.
Barbara has been active in the youth sports community both at the high school and club level. She has managed numerous hockey and soccer teams and served on the Board of Directors of Montgomery Youth Hockey Association for 6 years. In addition, she was a member of the board of The George Washington University Law Alumni Association.
Barbara earned a B.A. Cum Laude in History from Dickinson College, Carlisle, Pennsylvania and a Masters in Education from The George Washington University in Washington, DC. She taught U.S. History and Psychology in Montgomery County, Maryland. Barbara earned her J.D. with honors from The George Washington University, where she was a member of the Law Review. She is a member of the Bar of the District of Columbia. Barbara and her husband Steve live in North Bethesda. They have two children, Elizabeth and David.
Delores Snowden was named Vice President of Human Resources in 2006 after serving as Director of Human Resources since 2004. She is responsible for the development, implementation and management of the health and welfare benefit programs as well as policies and procedures of all of the CIG companies.
Delores began working for Disclosure Incorporated in 1971 and came to CIG via the Disclosure acquisition in 1977. Delores was the Assistant Controller for Disclosure before changing her career path to human resources in 1996.
Delores attended the University of Maryland and is a member of the Society for Human Resource Management and the Montgomery County chapter of SHRM. She lives in Maryland and has three children, Michelle, Andrew and Spencer.
Josh Weiss joined CIG in October 2016 and maintains full responsibility for the financial management for Cambridge Information Group and CIG Education Group. His responsibilities include accounting operations, financial planning, budgeting and analysis, monthly financial reporting, annual audits and tax compliance.
Josh came to CIG from Marcum, LLP where he was a Senior Audit Manager. At Marcum, Josh was a member of the SEC Practice Group and was the key individual on more than 15 initial public offerings, raising more than $2.3 billion. Josh was also a member of the Transaction Services Group, where he provided due diligence, deal structuring and buy-side representation services that helped clients identify and minimize critical financial risks. Josh was a frequent teacher of continuing education seminars on a variety of financial topics. Earlier in his career Josh was an Audit Manager at BDO USA, LLP and a member of its Real Estate and Hospitality group.
Josh earned a degree in Accounting from Yeshiva University, Sy Syms School of Business and is a licensed CPA in New York and Vermont. Josh lives in Long Island with his wife Michal and their four children.
Guyan is responsible for evaluating new investment opportunities as well as portfolio oversight and support for Cambridge Information Group.
Guyan comes to CIG from Invus Financial Advisors where he spent over three years as an Investment Research Analyst, managing an equity hedge fund portfolio for their multi-billion family office. Prior to Invus, he interned at UBS Wealth Management America and Crimson Investment Ltd. in Shanghai, China.
Guyan is a Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst (CAIA). He has also passed all 3 levels of CFA exams.
Guyan earned a B.A. in Economics and a B.S. in Computer Science from Shanghai Jiao Tong University and a M.S. in Management Science & Engineering from Columbia University. Guyan is fluent in Mandarin. Guyan lives on the Midtown East and enjoys soccer, meditation, cycling, and poker.
Jill is responsible for CIG press releases and communications. She also directs special projects for CIG and serves on the Board of Directors. Prior to joining CIG, she was an associate attorney at Shulman, Rogers, Gandal, Pordy & Ecker, until 1993. Jill became Associate General Counsel at CIG in 1994 where she was at the forefront of CSA's Internet-based platform. Her core product, Environmental Routenet, was one of the first products to transition data from CSA's paper products to the World Wide Web.
Outside of her work activities Jill has been active in providing pro bono work for CASA (National Court Appointed Special Advocate Association), a program that uses volunteers to speak for the best interests of abused and neglected children in court and numerous charitable activities in the Washington DC metro area.
Jill graduated from George Washington University Law School in 1992 and holds a B.A. in psychology from the University of Pennsylvania. Jill and her husband Rob live in Bethesda, Maryland with their three children, Joshua, Jessica and Natalie.
